A Tribute to My Beloved Husband, David
Expressing my love for you, David, feels almost impossible. The words I write could never fully capture the depth of my gratitude, passion, commitment, and admiration for you. We are an average couple with children and two dogs, enjoying cars and motorbikes. However, our love for each other is far from average. It thrives on gratitude for the simplest things in life. In a world where the word 'love' is often thrown around carelessly, our love stands strong and unwavering. It overcomes any obstacle because it is unconditional, and we work through everything together.
What is love? It's not just the big things like the home you've provided or the life we've built together with our children. It's the hundreds of little things you do every day. It's the "Good morning, wife" as we wake up, the quiet care you take when you have an early workday to not disturb me or the kids, the cup of tea you make after a sleepless night, and telling me I am beautiful even when I feel exhausted. It's the goodbye kiss and the simple "Have a nice day." It's the random texts or calls just to let me know you're thinking of me. It's helping with the washing up after dinner, even when you're tired from a long day at work. It's the quiet moments we share when we finally sit down together or hold hands during family car journeys. Your touch reassures me and melts away all the stresses of the day.
We've faced challenges, especially with our children's needs, but I wouldn't
have made it through without you by my side. Like many mothers, I take on a lot of pressure to keep our family safe, and sometimes it builds up. Recently, I hit an all-time low, but your support got me through. No luxury holiday or expensive gift was needed; just a simple hug from you was enough. You never judged my breakdown. You understood my tears, acknowledged the tough times, and reassured me that you had my back. You reminded me that I was doing my best and that my best was more than enough. You appreciated the sacrifices I've made and subtly checked to ensure I was okay, giving me little pockets of time to remember that I, too, deserve care.
I am truly blessed to have found you all those years ago. When I saw you in the playground at secondary school, you were mesmerizing. I didn't know who you were, but you made me flustered and nervous every time you were near. I'm grateful to my 12-year-old self for having the courage to ask a boy she didn't know to be her boyfriend. Because of that brave moment, we've created a partnership and bond beyond my comprehension.
To all who read this, love takes time and effort, but it is the greatest thing you can receive if you put in the work. On their deathbeds, people don't wish they worked more or had more money; they wish they spent more time with their loved ones. Love is what we leave behind, and it will be treasured by those closest to us. Never take the small things for granted. They are the true acts of love and kindness. Don't underestimate the power of simple gestures like sitting with your partner for a quiet moment, listening to how their day was, or making them a cup of tea. Acknowledge their feelings without judgment and cherish the little things that make your love special.
To my husband, David, all I can say is thank you. Thank you for everything you do, even the smallest, seemingly insignificant things. Thank you for showing me what love is, how to express it, and how to receive it. Thank you for believing in me, inspiring me, and being my biggest supporter. Thank you for lifting me up even when I'm so low it's hard to see a way out. Thank you for your big, strong, warm hands that always make everything feel okay. Thank you for saying yes all those years ago at school and taking a chance on a girl you had never met. Thank you for giving me our children, creating a wonderful life for us, and helping us navigate the challenges we have faced. I hope that with my day-to-day actions, I express my love for you as you do for me. You have given me a truly wonderful life, and I couldn't wish for anything more. I'm excited about the many more adventures we will have together.
When you look at me with that happy, proud expression, know that the person
I am today is because of you. My beliefs, values, passion, determination, and commitment to our family are all because of you. We never know what life will throw at us, but with each other, I know we can get through anything. When my time on this earth is over, I will know I was the luckiest person to have shared my life with you. Every breath I have taken has been filled with love and compassion.
Thank you, my love, for all that you do. With all the love in the world, your wife. xx
